{"id":324,"date":"2015-10-29T13:03:23","date_gmt":"2015-10-29T18:03:23","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.discovery.wisc.edu\/vr2015\/?p=324"},"modified":"2015-11-12T12:16:52","modified_gmt":"2015-11-12T18:16:52","slug":"eco-nut-week-1","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.discovery.wisc.edu\/vr2015\/2015\/10\/29\/eco-nut-week-1\/","title":{"rendered":"Eco Nut: Week 1"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.discovery.wisc.edu\/vr2015\/files\/2015\/10\/Catlateral-Damage.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-325\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.discovery.wisc.edu\/vr2015\/files\/2015\/10\/Catlateral-Damage.png\" alt=\"Catlateral Damage\" width=\"1440\" height=\"900\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.discovery.wisc.edu\/vr2015\/files\/2015\/10\/Catlateral-Damage.png 1440w, https:\/\/blogs.discovery.wisc.edu\/vr2015\/files\/2015\/10\/Catlateral-Damage-300x188.png 300w, https:\/\/blogs.discovery.wisc.edu\/vr2015\/files\/2015\/10\/Catlateral-Damage-1024x640.png 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1440px) 100vw, 1440px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><em>Catlateral Damage<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>Individual Reports:<\/b><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Eric <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">started storyboarding the flow of the game and transcribed notes for our meetings.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><i>Kang\u00a0<\/i>also started storyboarding the flow of the game and built the presentation for Thursday.<\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Ike\u00a0<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">offered ideas to aide in tackling the\u00a0issue of the flow and timeline of the game.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Tyler\u00a0<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">took notes during the meetings and offered ideation of the game&#8217;s scope and flow and wrote the blog post for Thursday.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>It is important to note that we will be meeting together twice a week to work collaboratively on the project and a lot of progress will overlap with each other.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>Accomplishments:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">We met to discuss the path of the story that we wanted to take and started to storyboard the sequences<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">We looked at other examples of games and thought about how their style of gameplay could be applied to our own<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">We discussed our potential target users and concluded that our game should be approachable to both young and old<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">We thought about the role of satire and comedy in casual gaming and how it could apply our own game<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>Problems:<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">One of our biggest issues was figuring how exactly we wanted to approach the message of environmentalism, whether it be in a serious light, whether or not it should be emotionally grabbing, etc. We discussed back and forth a lot with different ideas and the scope got a little too large after a while.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>Plans for Next Week:<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">We plan to start purchase some assets in the Unity Asset Store and start building the environment next week. The purpose of this experience now is to see just how much of the virtual environment you can destroy by engaging in simple actions, such as turning on a stove or leaving the lights on in a room.
