{"id":487,"date":"2016-10-27T00:20:46","date_gmt":"2016-10-27T05:20:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.discovery.wisc.edu\/vr2016\/?p=487"},"modified":"2016-11-03T09:46:39","modified_gmt":"2016-11-03T14:46:39","slug":"awesome-vr-rpg-title-tbd","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.discovery.wisc.edu\/vr2016\/2016\/10\/27\/awesome-vr-rpg-title-tbd\/","title":{"rendered":"Awesome VR RPG (title TBD)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/img3.mmo.mmo4arab.com\/news\/2016\/03\/28\/chronos-2.jpg\">http:\/\/img3.mmo.mmo4arab.com\/news\/2016\/03\/28\/chronos-2.jpg<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><strong>Team name:<\/strong>\u00a0RPG team (title of game to be determined)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><strong>Group:<\/strong> Amarah Sharif, Matt Binza, Mais Aleis<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Description:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">This project revolves around breaking some of the standard tropes of most role-playing games by breaking boundaries with VR technology.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> Similar to a \u201cchoose your own adventure\u201d type of story, \u00a0the users will figure out that they can either kill the monster or find alternatives to progress. \u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">You can click on the menu options and fight the monster like a standard turn-based RPG, or you can choose to walk outside of the boundaries of the fight and explore the area around you. \u00a0By leaving the fighting zone, the the player will notice that the environment \u00a0provides a ways to resolve confrontations without violence. \u00a0This may include manipulating the environment, finding items, or even discovering new words to add to the menu screen. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Based on the gamer\u2019s choices, they will find out that their actions affect the ending. \u00a0We ultimately want to place the user in a situation where they are given a choice. \u00a0We hope that the user ends up reflecting on personal morality, the consequences of violent actions, and the importance of thinking outside the box to solve problems. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Equipment to be used:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Computers (we have)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Unity (we have)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">HTC Vive (we don\u2019t have)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>What we know how to do:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Programming in JavaScript and C, basic Unity knowledge, previous experience with storyboarding, creating Flash\/Javascript games, and music production.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>What we don\u2019t know how to do:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Programming for the HTC Vive, and we do not know the full extent of how to use Unity.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">C# might be a bit different than C<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>First steps:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Gain familiar with programming in Unity through making practice scenes<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Create a storyboard and characters. <\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">After 1 and 2 are good, get started with designing an animated backstory for user, and 1st stage with enemy and options. <\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> \u00a0Design definitive puzzle structure(s).<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>http:\/\/img3.mmo.mmo4arab.com\/news\/2016\/03\/28\/chronos-2.jpg &nbsp; Team name:\u00a0RPG team (title of game to be determined) Group: Amarah Sharif, Matt Binza, Mais Aleis Description: This project revolves around breaking some of the standard tropes of most role-playing games by breaking boundaries with VR technology.
