Eco Nut: Week 6

Accomplishment as a team

  • We met together last Friday and yesterday and finished the storyboard.
  • We also tested our model with Oculus Rift. So far, there is no issue with connecting.

Introduction

  • Gazelle warns a player not to interrupt the beautiful forest

Play

  • Mission message —> “Go Nuts” and destroy this forest
  • There are major two activities in this game
    • Pollute the water
    • Pollute the air
  • The following is a list of activity player can do and results coming after
    • Throw trash into the lake—> water contamination —> gazelle drinks contaminated water and die
      • Food (fruits, donuts, ice-cream)
      • Trash (Milk carton, food packages)
      • Recycle (Glass, paper box, plastic cups)
    • Turn on all electricity —> Excess energy fed into power plant—> smoke(fog effect) and explosion
      • TV
      • Speaker
      • Oven
      • Laundry machine
      • Lights(Ceiling light, table lamp, kitchen light) —> increase intensity
    • Set the thermometer highest degree (100 F)

End

  • Strong explosion sound effect lead a player to go outside of house.
  • Weather effect
  • Trees on Fire
  • Magma
  • Thunder + Rain
  • Dying Gazelles

Individual Efforts

Kang
Have added more objects into the house (TV, speaker, Kitchen bar, dinning table, book shelves, trash cans, switches, etc.) and modified the power plant. I made light switches and power switches for all electronics and as a player turn on electricity of the whole house, the power plant will burn more fuels giving off more smoke and cause explosion after all.
I placed the dinning table, bookshelves and trashcans next to the lake view window so that player can pick small items(i.e. foods, trashes, plastic cups) off the table/bookshelves and throw them into the lake instead of using trashcan. Me and Tyler purchased “simple object packages” that include simple items such as fruits, donuts, paper box etc.

Tyler

Assisted in tuning up the interior and changing some lighting to get the desired effect. I also created the basis for the power plant and added smoke and fire to the smokestacks. Later on I created labels for the trash bins as well as different trophies for the player’s nuttiness level. We will now assign a total-score trophy at the end with one of three levels, Kinda NuttyPretty Nutty, and Super Nutty. I am continuing to lay out the UI elements and am also researching Unity 5.3’s expanded VR tools, especially the UI ones.

Eric

Continued to implement his system for tracking the three activities that the player will do in the game and how those meters will be displayed in the player’s view. He has also implemented triggers for weather effects as the player gets worse and worse (or better?) to give the player a good sense of their damage. We will use his score system to assign a trophy at the end of the game for the player’s nuttiness level.

Ike

Created the voices for the animals for the use of both ambient noise during the game and for direct confrontations. I started with voices from Google Translate and tweaked them to make them sound a little more unusual. Most of the other sound effects such as electricity hums and other object noises are also complete and are starting to be implemented into the Unity project.

Problems

  • Unity scenes don’t work well with Git because of their structure, so we have now done our work in separate scenes, bundled them as prefabs, and imported them into a master scene.

Next Steps

  • Tie everything together!
  • Implement UI
  • Implement sound
  • Trigger animations
  • Polish
